Essentia

This is a piece for live percussion and tape. The tape part consists solely of sounds recorded in my kitchen, which I then modified in my copmuter and turned into music.

Currently, you can only download the tape part. However, a live recording is coming soon, I hope; there are certainly occasions planned. The piece was premiered in May 2002, by Becky Dell, at her final recital at Trinity College of Music. I'm hoping to obtain the recording of this performance soon.

"Essentia" is also part of my "Tryptychon" (if you can call it that). This is basically a three movement piece consisting of "Siren out of Nowhere" (which you can also download here), "Essentia" (coming soon) and "The Factory".

The whole project is called "Konsumterror". Each piece is also accompanied by films. Watch this space for upcoming performance news.

The Factory

This piece, which exists on this webiste in its final form (i.e. there's no live element), forms the third and final part to my collection of musique concrete pieces which is now titled: "Konsumterror".

The other two pieces, which can also be found on this site, are "Siren out of Nowhere" and "Essentia" (formerly "Kitchenworks").

In addition, each piece is accompanied by a film, which have been produced in collaboration with film-makers.

More information on this will be available once I have made the three films ready for download from this site.

Siren out of Nowhere

This is my first ever electronic piece. I wrote it in 2001. I also made a film to it, with the director Ralf Arndt of Berlin. This film was shot in 2003. It will soon be available on this website, too.

The sounds in this piece all come from cars and car parts, which I mostly recorded myself.

The live part contains two percussion parts, one for bonnet (with various types of mallets, eg hot-rods, brushes, plastic cleaning brushes, hammer, bass drum mallets, etc.) and one for two smal oil cannisters and brake disk.

The first live performance of this given by James Burgess and myself in June 2001 for my end of year exam at Trinity College of Music in London.

Timepiece

This piece was written for and in conjunction with the Royal Academy of Dance, in London.

More precisely, I collaborated with a choreographer for this, who explained to me her ideas for her dance routine and what sort of message she would like to convey to her audience.

The result is the piece that can be listened to here. The first performance took place at the Royal Academy of Dance in London, in June 2003.

The music consists solely of the tape track.
